VETS SHINE AT NATIONAL XC CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FALKIRK – Keith Geddes

After a long day up and down the A9 to Falkirk and back the clubs 59 athletes had a successful day on a surprisingly dry and warm sunny day in Central Scotland.  There were some great individual and team performances with both the young and old posting good times and finishes. Lucas Cairns and Cartiona Garvie were the best placed youngsters finishing their U13 races 12th and 24th respectively. The seniors had great results in both races with Sarah Leibnitz finishing an impressive 19th place in the senior womens race and John Newsom running a magnificent race to finish 9th in a very strong mens field.  It was the veterans who stole the show with Julie Wilson continuing her great form with a 4th place finish in the V45 race but golden oldie Paul Miller had tremendous run to finish 1st in the V45 mens race.

Many thanks to all the parents and coaches who made the long journey to support all the athletes and to add to the great atmosphere both on the bus and on the course.

BRITISH CHAMPS – Congratulations to Stephen Mackay for making the qualifying standard and getting invited to the Institute of Sport in Sheffield. Stephen didn’t run quite as fast as he wished but will no doubt be back with quicker times soon.

CROSS COUNTRY AWARDS EVENING

Well that’s another XC season over and track & field is just around the corner but before all that there’s the little matter of giving out a few trophies to the hardy winter weather athletes and a chance to let the hair down for a few hours.  The Club has booked the ice rink again for Saturday the 26th of March to hold its annual awards evening it all kicks off at 7pm and costs £5 each or £15 for a family of 4.  This includes a buffet and ice skating after the buffet is finished if anyone requires a ticket then please let Keith Geddes know ASAP as numbers are restricted at the ice rink.
