CLUB ATHLETES: NATIONAL VESTS

Inverness Harriers Amateur Athletic Club (IHAAC) have developed young athletes who have gone onto experience success on the international stage. The first club athlete to compete at a Major Championship was Honorary Life Member Jayne Barnetson at the 1985 European Athletics Junior Championships.

The club has since had no less than 15 individual athletes who have competed at Commonwealth Games, European Championships and IAAF World Championships. The club had 3 athletes at the 1986 Commonwealth Games (Edinburgh), 4 athletes at the 2014 Commonwealth Games (Glasgow) and 1 athlete at the 2024 Olympic Games (Paris).

Megan Keith is the first athlete at the club to be made an Olympian, competing at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games over the 10000 Metres having obtained the qualifying mark with 30:36.84 at ‘The Ten’ event in San Juan Capistrano, California, USA on 16 March 2024 and then guaranteed automatic GB team selection by winning the ‘Night of the 10,000m PBs’ event at Parliament Hill, London on 18th May 2024.

CLUB ATHLETES: REGIONAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL MEDALLISTS

Inverness Harriers Amateur Athletic Club (IHAAC) athletes have won medals at District, National and International level. The first club athlete to win a national medal was Roderick McFarquhar competing in the Junior 800 Yards at the 1960 Scottish Championships. Club athletes have since collected over 600 medals at Scottish Age Groups, Seniors, Masters and Disability Championships.

Jamie Bowie was the first club athlete to win a Major Championships medal, collecting a gold medal at the 2011 European U23 Championships as part of GB’s 4x400m relay team and would later add a silver medal from the 2014 World Indoor Championships as part of Team GB 4x400m relay squad to his collection.

Megan Keith is the first club athlete to win individual medals at Major Championships, collecting 2 medals at consecutive European U23 Cross Country Championships (2022 – Silver and 2023 – Gold) and followed this up with 5000 Metres gold medal at 2023 European U23 Championships and 10000 Metres bronze medal at 2024 World Championships in Budapest.
