Weekend Round Up – 6th – 7th June

At the Scottish Schools Championships in Grangemouth Matthew Macfarlane took a silver medal in the Hammer with a throw of 38.34. Also in the Hammer, Kelsey Barbour took bronze with a 33 metre throw. Daniel MacFarlane took bronze in yesterdays Pentathlon including a 100 Hurdles pb of 13.98. Brother Andrew was 6th in the same competition. Both now hope to be in the training team for the international in the Autumn.
Youth athlete GEORGE EVANS was in terrific form at the scottishathletics Throws and Jumps Grand Prix in Livingston – with a discus effort of 61.24m for a PB. George is throwing 18 weights this season and that is a qualifier for the Comonwealth Youth Games for Scotland and for the World Youth with GB for this summer for the Inverness Harriers athlete, who is a member of the National Academy.
It is rare anyone throws beyond 60m in Scotland at this age and weight with some observers believing George’s performance at Livingston the best under those criteria for more than 20 years.
Congratulations to George as the Throws and Jumps Grand Prix brings up another fine performance following Jo Butterfield’s European record in April at the first of the four events.

NAIRN 10 MILER AND 6k FUN RUN
Congratulations to John Newsom and Jenny Bannerman who won todays North District 10 mile Championships at the Nairn 10 Mile Road Race. Jenny broke the hour mark for the first time and was delighted with her run following a recent foot infection. Completing the clean sweep was Lucas Cairns who won the 6k Fun Run. The men won the team event with strong runs from Gordon Lennox 3rd, Graham Bee 4th and Paul Miller 6th. Well done to all those who ran – results to follow.
