Weekend Round Up

weekend action

What a weekend of action for the club with probably the busiest weekend schedule of the year.

On the non competition front, the Gothenburg Fundraising Coffee Morning went very well and Wendy Flocjhart is still counting up the change and will be back with a total soon.  Many thanks to all those who took the time to help, bake, support, and attend the event.  There will be more fundraisers coming up so keep an eye on the website and Facebook for details.

LONDON MARATHON - 5 Harriers raced round the streets of London on Sunday in the Virgin London Marathon. Congratulations to Roma Shepherd, Alison Wilson, Jackie Mair, Jonny Macleod and Gordon Lennox for running fantastic times.

GEORGE EVANS DISCUS – Unofficial word of a throw of 60.21m for George Evans in the Discus. If someone can confirm that, that would be qualifying standards for both the Commonwealth Youth Games and the World Youth Championships. Great work George!

PAUL MILLER – Club Senior Paul Miller had an excellent run/bike/run at the European Duathlon Championships in Alcobendas, Spain coming in 6th place in his age group.  Awful weather conditions (torrential rain) played a part, good Scottish weather for a Highlander.  Great effort Paul.

HOKA HIGHLAND FLING – Awesome effort by Tim Cooke who finished the 53 mile off road mountainous 2015 Hoka Highland Fling in a gun time of 09:25:18 and chip time of 09:25:08. Great work Tim

HIGHLANDER MOUNTAIN MARATHON – 2 days, 54 km, 3400 m ascent, snow, and more snow did little to dampen the enthusiasm of Team Martigs Caroline Marwick and Helen Gertig who despite sub zero conditions were still smiling after the highlander mountain marathon! Also competing were Rachel and Gilly Keith who won the female D Class category and Dagmar Borrowman who won the female score class with team mate Fiona.

HARRIERS CAN CYCLE TOO! – Quite a few Harriers left the trainers at home in favour of 2 wheels on Sunday for the Loch Ness Etape. Paula Ross finished 6th overall in the ladies race and Andy Macrae was highest finishing male Harrier in 19th place, with Ross Nixon 27th and Graham Maclennan 52nd. Clun Handicap Champion Charlie Maclennan also had a cracking race.

BALMORAL/PORTMAHOMACK – A few harriers made it to Portmahomack including Hugh Marwick who ran a seasons best in the 10k. Alex Sutherland threw away his tartan cloot to adorn the gold and maroon vest and was first v60. If anyone else competed in these events or has any other news that I have missed – please email me details to rpcoltrane@hotmail.co.uk
