U10 4 x 100m WR Attempt

Highlight of Sundays Petrofac 2 meeting was not the topping up of the suntan or gentle cooling mists of rain whilst in the heat of competition! Reports to the Harriers website suggest that George Mitchell impending appearance on Dragon’s Den with this idea has not gone unnoticed in Nike headquarters.
The gentle breeze that lapped the track, which made the majority of the senior men’s middle distance squad decide upon kicking back and watching The Chase Omnibus rather than the chase of a PB did not affect the squad preparations.
The match officials on hearing reports that a well-tanned pensioner in Inverness appeared to have keeled over whist running in some form of reflectorized skin suit dispatched the meeting’s Ambulance to the scene and therefore this young 4 x 100m squad were informed at 5pm that with no first aid presence on site there would be no attempt at this Jamaican world mark in this showcase last event. Again George has a different interpretation of a crack at the Jamaican.
Saving the day was the Harriers coaches who stepped in to ask (sorry block in!) the ambulance staff and thus hold them up the requisite 36.83 seconds it would take to lay down a new world mark. Post event Charlie Bannerman confirmed that this was actually done in the early 1880’s at the wind assisted MIlburn Mables League with the famous Baillie, Bannerman, Forbes, Barnes quartet!
U10 4x100m just missed out on the world mark by a few seconds but a great end to an excellent day for all in the squad ( left to right: Ben Sharp, Ewan Brown, Lucas Cairns, Alasdair Thom). George has asked us to pass on to members going to this weekend’s car boot sale, a hardly used skin suit is for sale at a Tanner!
