Top Performances at Gateshead for Jason, Paul and Finlay

Jamie Finlay and Paul

Inverness Harriers Jason MacLean, Paul Davidson and Finlay Maclennan all had great performances on Sunday at the Tartan Games at Gateshead where there was a small group of Para Athletes from Scotland competing.  Jason was a comfortable winner in the T37 (Cerebral Palsy) 100mtrs with a time of 13.03secs (w/s 1.6) making it a legal counting time for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games where the 100mtrs for maleT37 classification is on the programme.

Jason who lives in Nairn has been chasing competitions to gain his qualifying time of 13.40secs which he has to do twice before June next year to be considered for selection. He travelled down with a small group from Inverness to compete at the popular Games which are organised by Gateshead Harriers and incorporates it as one of the Cerebral Palsy (CP) Grand Prix Events which take place throughout England. Next up will be the UK Disability Age Group Championships at Bedford this coming weekend where he will compete against the best in UK. He also has a big competition in Sheffield in September where he has been selected for the Scottish Team in the UK School Games.

Also competing at Gateshead were Paul Davidson and Finlay Maclennan who are in the process of applying for T20 Classification (intellectual impairment). Paul who has just returned from a hamstring injury produced a personal best in the 400mtrs with a time of 54.07secs to finish 3rd and then posted a 24.64sec in the 200mtrs in the senior men’s race. Finlay finished in 5th place in the 400mtrs in a time of 57.92secs and then ran 25.47secs in the 200mtrs.
