This weekend provides a couple of good local races and one further afield which will hopefully see a large number of Harriers out honing their fitness for the cross country.

National 4k Short Course Cross Country – Bellahouston Park

Stephen Mackay and Stewart Michael will be representing the club at the National Short Course Championship on Saturday in Bellahouston Park.  Stephen and Stewart have been in great form over recent cross country events and are always seen warming up in the muddy fields, bogs and hills with a big grin on their faces.  They can’t get enough of Cross Country at the moment.  Stephen has said that he is really looking forward to the temperature getting really cold and the underfoot conditions properly muddy.  Good luck lads.

The Glen Moray 10k/10Mile – Glen Moray Distillery, Elgin. 12pm

This event is a great double header organised by our friends at Forres Harriers.  Paul Rogan has done a great job organising this event and he assures that it is over a fairly flat course and hopefully the wind off the firth will be kind.  Donnie MacDonald looks likely to feature in the 10 miler with Paul Miller, Andrew Macrae, Lisa Macrae, Dean Kane, Roma Shepherd, Andy Shepherd, Jackie Mair, Peter Fraser, Paula Ross, Jenny Bannerman and Sarah Liebnitz all featuring in either the 10k or 10 mile event.  If you fancy a good race get along and support this one, race starts at 12pm and there is entry on the day available.

Knockfarrell Hill Race, 1pm, Strathpeffer

If you prefer your thrills in the hills, Saturday at 1pm sees the running of the Knockfarrel Hill Race from the Shinty pitch in Strathpeffer.  This is a popular race organised by the Tartan Touting Bog Botherers at Highland Hill Runners.  The race features a “nice” climb up the Cats Back before heading back down to Strathpeffer.  Alec Keith, Stewart Wilson, Ross Nixon and Graham Campbell are likely to feature for the club with Nixon hoping to slay a couple of Hill Billies and improve his Strava status.

Parkrun – Bught Park 9.30

Saturday also provides the usual Parkrun opportunity at the Bught at 9.30.  This is the 115 running of this successful event and it has been a good feeder for the club with quite a number of runners who joined Parkrun in the early days now proudly wearing the Gold and Maroon vest. Neil Grant has recently joined the club and has seen his PB drop from 25.37 to 18.43 in 2 years.  Neil is likely to debut for the club at Elgin XC next week. Billy Skinner should make his 110th appearance with Dougie and Averil Lamont likely to be helping out as usual.
