HARRIERS READY FOR COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Among the 58 Scottish track and field athletes who will begin competition at Hampden Park on Monday 28th July are four members of Inverness Harriers. Rachael MacKenzie is in the high jump, Jamie Bowie the 4 x 400m relay, Jason MacLean the disability 100m and Kirsty Law the discus.
For any Scottish club to have four of its members in the same Commonwealth Games team is a proud achievement. But when that club is based 150 miles North of the central belt and the four athletes are an integral part of its makeup rather than simply members in name, then the sense of pride and achievement is all the greater.
Jamie, Kirsty and Rachael all began their development in our junior ranks more than ten years ago and have been valued club members ever since. Jason, who only took up athletics in 2013, is a more recent recruit but both he and Rachael still live and train in the local area and are coached locally as well.
These four athletes are also the latest on an ever lenghtening list of Inverness Harriers at the Commonwealth Games. Since Edinburgh in 1986, this club has had a total of nine athletes in Scottish teams.
Inverness Harriers is as proud of them as they have also shown themselves to be proud of the club and we wish them all the very best of fortune at Hampden Park.
