Glen Moray Half & 10k

A healthy Inverness turnout assembled at the Glen Moray marathon, half marathon and 10k races at the weekend with 3 great routes to choose from all starting at the Glen Moray distillery in Elgin.  No harriers fancied the longer option but the half marathon acted as the North district championships and this lured a few to toe the start line.  John Newsom took an early and unassailable lead which he extended to 2 minutes and 1 sec over 2nd place Donnie Macdonald to win in a time of 1hr 12min 55sec.  He was crowned north champ despite Scottish Athletics not sending the medals up the road in time for the event. A great run also came from Darren Dean in 5th almost bettering his PB on a very windy and difficult course in 1hr 19mins 36mins.

The 10k went to the wire and ended in a dramatic sprint finish.  Gordon Lennox after nailing a parkrun PB on the Saturday had to dig deep to fend of Ron Gauld of Stonehaven  by 2 sec with a big kick in the last 100m in 33.10.   There were also age group prizes from Tom  McWilliam (38.20), Alex Sutherland (42.32) and Liz Gray (52.37).  Well done to all the others who competed and enjoyed the excellent event and superb food afterwards.
