Club Handicap – Craig Dunain

5_Ross Fraser

A good turnout of hardy Harriers braved the sub zero temperatures of the Caley Canal to compete in todays Club Handicap race. The icy conditions were a bit hazardous but everyone managed to negotiate the course without incident. There were some great performances in the junior race despite the conditions(report to follow from Keith). In the Senior race there was an alteration to the usual start/finish to prevent crossing the A82 with battle commencing on the North side of the canal but following the normal route thereafter.

There was the usual abuse being levelled at the Handicapper with George Mitchell complaining his handicap is the same as the first time he ran the course as an 18 year old (the year before Telford had built the Canal). As it turned out the first 10 runners finished within 90 secs of each other, so with a couple of tweeks we’ll see a blanket finish at the next race.

Kenny Steele won the race managing to overhaul Averil Lamont in the last 200 metres with Finlay Maclennan coming in a close 3rd. Scratch winner was Stephen Mackay in a scorching 19.10 with Ross Nixon 2nd (having been the only one not informed by Billy Skinner of the course shortening).

A good race was had by all. Full results and junior report to follow.

Remember to get your name down for the Christmas relays on 16th at 1pm. All ages and abilities welcome (open to non members too) with the focus being on fun not winning – prize for best fancy dress.
