Club Athletes Shine at Scottish Schools Championships

Scottish Schools

A large contingent of Harriers made their way to Hampden Park on Saturday to compete in the Scottish Schools Track and Field Championships.  The athletes were representing their schools but many of the performances were down to the input and work invested by Club coaches and the dedication of the athletes of course.

The athletes were lucky enough to be some of the first people to compete on Hampdens new athletics arena finished in preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

There were several Gold, Silver and Bronze medal performances and many PBs.  Well done to all athletes who competed.  Some of the highlights are as follows

Group D Girls

Discus Gold Medal – Josie Steele –  - 25.73 – Katy Gray 4th

Group C Boys

Discus – Bronze – Alex Geddes 33.17

800m – Bronze – Joe Arnaud – 2.05.40 – PB

Pole Vault – Gold Andrew McFarlane – 3.70m (New Scottish Schools and Scottish Under 15s Record)

Javelin – Silver Andrew McFarlane

Hurdles – Silver – Andrew McFarlane – 12.24secs PB

Group B Boys

Discus – Gold – George Evans 52.65m PB (Also had 5 consecutive throws over 50m), William Watts 4th, Daniel Wilby 5th

Shot Putt – Gold – George Evans – 15.78 PB

Hammer – Bronze - Ruaridh Gray – 38.10m

Javelin – Bronze Daniel McFarlane – 37.42

Pole Vault – Bronze Daniel McFarlane – 3.70 PB

400m – Bronze – Andrew Smith 51.59 PB

200m – Bronze – Andrew Smith 22.64

Group B Girls

Javelin – Silver – Mary Flockhart 36.63

800m – Bronze – Lucy Massie 2.17.54

300m – Bronze – Gillian Gordon

300m Hurdles – Bronze Gillian Gordon

Other notable performances were James Geddes taking 12 secs of his 3000m PB with a 9.47.35 and Heather Cambell battling to 4th in the highly competitive Group A girls 800m
