CHALLENGERS GET GREAT RESULT AT DISABILITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

It was a great day for one of the new groups representing the Inverness Harriers for the first time when the Inverness Harriers Challengers competed at the Red Star AC Open Athletics Championships For All Disabilities at Crownpoint Stadium in Glasgow on Saturday 15th June.

Coaches Ola Mackay and Alison Thompson along with two volunteers made the long trip to Glasgow to represent the Harriers for the first time and took down 16 athletes to compete in the Championships a total of 33 medals were won including an impressive 16 gold,10 silver and 7 bronze amongst only 16 athletes,medal winners on the day were Jason Simpson with 4,Lewis Maxwell with 4,Matthew Paterson with 4,Kyle Middleton with 3,Finlay Maclennan with 4,Beth Smilie with 1,Cameron Bardett with 1,Hannah Duncan with 2,Aaron Lacey with 2,Katie Campbell with 1,Gordon Smith with 2,John Macdonald with 2,Cindie Maclennan with 1 and Charlie Mulvaney with 1 also involved in the championships were Ruby Starling and Robbie Kirk who narrowly missed out on medals.

Ola and Alison were delighted with the performances in terrible conditions where the rain never stopped all day but it never dampened the athletes commitment and determination and are looking forward to the next competition in July.
