Busy Sunday for Club Seniors

SENIORS AT CANAL

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS – HANDICAP SERIES

Congratulations to James Geddes and Caroline Marwick who crossed the line first in todays 5th Handicap Race – Hidden Handicap. James had a good battle with Cameron Young over the 5 mile course and had enough in reserve to ease past in the final 800m with Ross Nixon finishing 3rd. Caroline continued her great season by winning the female race in 34.05 with Julie Wilson 2nd and Donna Bannerman 3rd. This race is the hidden handicap event and Caroline Marwick’s final push along the canal bank was enough to beat Ross Nixon by just 5 seconds with Cameron Young just 1 second further back. Ross Nixon was first Senior to finish and, as both James and Cameron are under 17, he takes the Senior title for the 3rd year in a row, mainly down to the fact that he is the handicapper and ensures that most of the good runners don’t hear about the event. Billy Skinner finished 2nd in what could be his last appearance in a gold vest before he negotiates his big money transfer to Highland Hill Runners. There are talks of a 4 figure sum that the Harriers are willing to pay HHR in order for them to take Billy off their hands. Elgin City fans of the mid 90s know that even if they see Billy in a Tartan HHR vest , anything could happen!

This race was the final event in the winter long Handicap Series and Congratulations go to Donna Bannerman and Charlie MacLennan who take the Senior Handicap Titles. Charles Jarvie and Ross Nixon tied for 2nd in the mens series with Lorna Fife and Caroline Marwick sharing 2nd place in the Ladies event.
