Sean Chalmers produced one of his best performances on his cross country circuit to pick up a bronze medal in the under 17 mens race at the McCains Cross Challenge and European Trials at Sefton Park in Liverpool on Saturday. Sean finished 13 secs behind the eventual winner Jac Hopkins from Swansea Harriers and 3 secs behind silver medallist and fellow Scot Euan Gillham from Kilbarchan to take a well earned bronze medal in 18.16mins over the muddy 5.5km course. Also competing was Mhairi MacLennan who had a very solid run after a bad start position to finish in 41st place and 6th Scottish counter in her 1st year as an under 20. Mhairi clocked 17.31 over the 4.4k course. Steven MacKay who was running his 6th ever cross country race ran in the Senior Mens race as an under 23 competitor came in 168th position out of 488 starters and finished as 6th Scot in the under 23 category. He clocked 37.29mins over the 9.8k course which was very churned up when the seniors ran. Sean if he keeps up this form could see him selected for the Celtic Intl at Cardiff in January where 4 under 23,20,17 male and females get selected. The next event will be the Great Edinburgh CC and Inter Districts on the 5th January 2013.
