31 Jan 08 - 7 Juniors on a mission

Seven of our talented juniors are heading down to compete at the Kelvin Hall on the 9th February.
A group of our under 15s are going to the indoor age championships on the 9th Feb in Kelvin Hall:
Charis Mair, Elaine Murdoch, Paula Gass, Katie Stuart, Patrick Urquhart, Craig Campbell and Ian Coghill. They are all travelling down the night before with family. Janice M and Alan M will be there on the day for support.

28 Jan 08 - Canal Banks Seniors Handicap

Handicap Race, Canal Banks, Sunday 27 January 2008 The second club handicap took place on a mild blustery Sunday afternoon. The run took the 12 runners along one side of the canal banks, across the Muirtown Bridge and back to the clubhouse via King Brude Road.

New recruit Dougie MacDonald emerged victorious over the 3½ mile course and judging by the smile on his face at the finish he will be sure to milk the win at training in the coming weeks. Enjoy it Doug, it will likely be your last especially after we get your handicap time ‘sorted’ Dougie had the proverbial cigar lit by the time the flying fireman Mike Bond came home in second place 21 seconds later. Two of our all conquering ladies cross country team turned out with Jackie Mair just edging out Doreen Campbell with a determined kick in the final 300m finish which took place on the track. Well Jackie has always been known not to take any prisoners as Doreen’s shins have now experienced. The ever improving ‘Silver Fox’ David Gallie just nicked 4th spot from veteran Andy Gordon while at the back of the field a real dogfight was taking place. Tom ‘Sick Note’ McWilliam held off a fierce finish from a flying Billy Skinner. However he may have to spend the next fortnight in traction to recover. Skinner comfortably held off a challenge from the plucky Graham Laing to take a fine 8th place. Graham was seemingly lulled into a false sense of security as he passed young Skinner with 800 to go. But once on the track before Laing could react Skinner opened his legs and showed his class and majestically strode to the line.

Special thanks must also go to globetrotter George Mitchell who interrupted his current world tour to deign us with his latest tan. Thanks to George we are all now looking out our bottles of San Tropez.

Well done to Jim Davidson on completing his 104th consecutive club handicap race, a record never likely to be equalled. Well none will never likely live that long. Respect!

Thanks also to Angus & Mhari for officiating and to the girls for providing the refreshments. Much appreciated.
